Usually I agree with you, but I think this one was less about him being the man, and more about Renee being practically disabled without somebody to tell her what to do (like Bella used to). Still a danger zone, but not a sexism danger zone.
In a way, that’s even worst, because the word “allow” is used in such a throwaway manner, like it was obvious that Phil has the perfect right to allow (or not allow) Renee to do stuff and no one should call Meyer out for it.
