A personal blog where I mostly reblog things I like, often related to Harry Potter, Narnia, The Hunger Games, Huan Zhu Ge Ge, Bu Bu Jing Xin, and Pride and Prejudice.
Oh, movieverse Peter, you stupid freaking idiot.
I just want to smack him sometimes.
I wish we had seen High King Peter the Magnificent once. Just once. Instead, we got Peter the Teenage Drama Queen. It makes me sad because Peter’s character has so much potential but he was reduced to a whiny, arrogant jerk.
Yes, he was a king for 15 years before being forced to become a schoolboy again, but he was called Magnificent for a reason. He rises to the occasion. He does what is expected of him. He has trust issues, yes (see PC book,) but he is still the High King. He knew Aslan called him and his siblings back to Narnia to put Caspian on the throne. He has a plan (and a downright good one.) Most importantly, he gets over himself and trusts Aslan. His plan is only there to give Aslan time to do whatever is is he’s doing, even if Peter doesn’t know what that is yet. THAT is Peter Pevensie, and that is why he is called Magnificent. He knows that the only reason he is High King is because Aslan made him that (see Peter’s challenge to Miraz, ‘by the gift of Aslan,’) and he knows that he doesn’t have it all figured out. At the same time, he asserts his role as king and uses his power and years of experience to aid Caspian in whatever way he can.
However, movieverse Peter complains, doesn’t trust Aslan (nor does book!Peter but he gets over it and has a proper resolution,) dislikes Caspian and doesn’t want him on the throne of Narnia, is determined to do everything himself, has a terrible tatical plan* for the night raid, nearly gets everyone killed, doesn’t listen to Lucy (who is the closest to Aslan) and THEN gets over himself enough to formulate a solid plan and listen to people besides himself. And wow this ended up being longer than I thought. I really don’t like what they did to Peter (and don’t even get me STARTED on Edmund in VDT) in PC.*15 years of experience and that’s the best he can do? Please.
EDIT: So this has been sitting in my queue for a bit, but I’m publishing it now because I’m in a rant-about-the-character-development-of-the-Pevensie-brothers mood.
To be fair, PC book has very little plot and I guess they did have to add drama somehow. But the way they went about it was just stupid. 15 years of battle experience and the Magnificent one puts the archer on the ground where she has no range and Edmund on a tower where he does…nothing. Are you saying Susan can’t turn a torch on and off?
(I shouldn’t start ranting about PC!Peter because if I do, I never stop.)
